Looking forward to a big moving day? Before you pack your things into a moving truck, keep the following tips for using self storage:
Get a Moving Truck
Be sure to reserve a moving truck a couple of weeks ahead of time, otherwise you might have a difficult time finding a truck that is available on the day of your move.
Use the Right Moving
Oftentimes, it’s tempting to purchase big moving boxes so there is less to move, but larger boxes are heavy when they are filled up. The bottom of the boxes can break open, and you could get injured when moving them, and they’ll take up much space in an awkward manner when your self storage space is small.
Smaller boxes are more ideal. They are a lot easier to lift, stack, and move manually or with a dolly. Sure, you will have more boxes to work on but you will not wear yourself out quickly, and they’ll fit snugly inside your unit, maximising the space.
Use Storage Unit Strategically
When you place your things in your self storage space, stack the boxes upward instead of putting them low to the floor. When you are stacking your boxes, don’t stack higher than you can reach with your extended arms and feet flat on the floor.
Lift Boxes Properly
When you’re getting your boxes to a dolly, lift it from the ground with the right technique – bend at your knees, squat, grab the box, and then lift with your knees. Try not to lift boxes with your back, and never pivot or twist and then bend or reach at the back while carrying boxes.
